E-commerce industry is blooming in India in spite of the economic slowdown. Different marketing companies with different marketing strategies are trying to attract more and more customers from all over the country. Businessmen spread across the country who can’t reach out to customers living in different cities are now capable of doing so, thanks to the e-commerce industry. Most of the marketing companies like flipkart and snapdeal have a huge consumer base giving them the ‘Million Dollar Company’ tag.
Urban ladder is one such e-commerce company with a different business strategy but with the same goal of reaching out to the customers across the country. It was established by two IIM Bangalore graduates namely, Ashish Goel and Rajiv Srivatsa. Both of them, on different instances, were looking for some good quality furniture in Marathahalli, Bangalore and only felt dissatisfaction as the furniture didn’t cater to their needs. So, they came up with an idea. They created a business plan wherein they could deliver good quality furniture to people across different cities of India. Thus, urban ladder was born.
The company is set up in Bangalore, Karnataka. It delivers different furniture items like sofas, beds, dressing tables, dining tables, balcony chairs, etc., to people in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bangalore. Urban ladder has association with the best furniture manufacturers across the country especially, Rajasthan. Their strategy is simple. They keep a limited range of about 400 products to choose from so that the customers do not get perplexed about which product they should buy.
They present a youtube slideshow on their website and also present a sketch to give the customers an idea of the size, measurement and design of the product. They offer a huge variety of furniture to choose from. The products are offered at affordable prices. The company received its funds from SAIF Partners and Kalaari Capital in series-A funding in August 2013. The performance of the company so far, has been good. It is trying to expand its consumer base by reaching out to newer cities. The online furniture market is still new and budding gradually, and if the company continues to deliver furniture products at the current rate, then it will be soon that the e-commerce industry will have itself another million dollar company.
