THE JOYS OF GIVING
Remember when we used to be in school and the teachers would announce a charity event and we would always grimace among ourselves. Since I came from a missionary school, we had a lot of these events. Some of my classmates would be enthusiastic about it, some would complain about the hours and classes they would lose. I used to be one of them. Charity organizations and charity events have always received a skeptical response since people doubt whether their money goes to the right causes.
In celebrity culture, influential people use their platforms to urge people to donate and spread the cause they stand for . However the active participation rarely takes place. People have a preconceived notion that celebrities have limitless amount of wealth and their charities are just a PR stunt. Most organizations or causes turn into form of ridicule where people forget the cause. It becomes a competition to see who can donate more. Some corrupt organizations even try to get rich off various natural disaster or relief funds. So people are not drawn to these causes. The funds that were donated for But I came across an article circulating about a group named BTS and how their fans participate in various charities and hold events to honour and appreciate the group. So I wondered what makes this group or their influence so special that their fans do so much in their name. On a twitter portal I found out that they want to make a change and inspire other people .

Most people do not favour charities because they are clueless about where their money is going . They think they lack resources or do not have enough time. But in reality it is the lack of resourcefulness. We think too much but we do not act. To realize the importance of giving back to society we must learn to understand it.
Spending time enriching our community is a great way to broaden your perceptions of the world . By immersing yourself in a community surrounding yourself with people who are dedicated to bettering the world you can learn so much about how the world works . We gain a unique sense of purpose by serving those around you, one which often manifests in others areas of your life. Without volunteers many of the services and events we enjoy in our communities would not be readily available. Spending time helping out a local shelters or food banks provides an important service to less fortunate neighbours. Giving back to the place you call home helps to unite the community and bridge some of the social, economic and political gaps.
Donating your time to support those around you is extremely beneficial, both for you and your community . It is statistically proven that people who volunteer regularly are healthier both physically and mentally. Individuals who have volunteered throughout their lifetime typically live longer and have better psychologically well being. In addition to the health benefits, volunteering gives people a sense of purpose. The fulfilling of giving back and contributing to society is unparalled.
Giving back to also a great way to know your community and its citizens . When you volunteer, you have the opportunity to meets lots of new people. Working alongside individuals who also care people about improving their surroundings will allow you to broaden your network of friends. Additionally it will help us to understand the certain the circumstances of other members of our community. Having a broad , open-minded perspective of people from different walks of life around us will help you to be an effective and empathetic citizen.
People skills are not the only skills we will gain through volunteering . Dedicating time to help others will teach us patience, kindness and resilience. Not only will you improve our communication abilities by working alongside a diverse team of people, but we will gain a plethora of other experiences that will help you as navigate your future . Volunteering may even help you discover a new passion or interest or interest.
So get off your phones and volunteer at an NGO and or sponsor an underprivileged child. You don’t have to make big donations to large organizations . Start small and trust me it feels good. I have watched my aunts sponsor children and I have volunteered in NGOs myself. And trust me the end result makes you feel good.
