How to get glowing, healthy skin
What does your skin say about your health? Is it young and glowing or does it wear a withered look? Young or old, we’ve all obsessed over our skin at some point in our lives. We have gone through the rigmaroles of cleansing, toning and moisturising countless times. It’s now time to put your worries to rest and follow the age-old practice of Yoga and detoxification to sport skin that practically glows.
The skin is made up of Elastin and Collagen. Collagen is responsible for lending shape and firmness to our cheeks while Elastin looks after the elasticity of the skin. As we grow older, Collagen content in our skin diminishes and wrinkles begin making an appearance.
Your skin is a reflection of your internal health and clears out the toxins present in your body. An overdose of toxins in your system will give you dull, lifeless skin. To ensure healthy, smooth skin, follow this three-step detoxification process and revive the lost sheen of your skin.
Start with a monthly detox diet that incorporates three days of fasting with fruits. Just take out three days in a month and flush out toxins from your body. Follow a strict fruit/vegetable diet during these three days, avoiding coffee, tea, alcohol, oil and processed food items. You could use some salt for flavour but avoid strong spices. During the rest of the days in the month, follow a mineral rich diet. However, avoid the regime if you happen to be pregnant, menstrual or suffer from diabetes. It’s of extreme importance to sweat during this period. Engage in some form of physical activity everyday to flush the toxins out.
The second step is to follow the weekly detox regime. After the cleansing of your system, it is time to calm your mind. A detox bath will do wonders to this end. Go for a weekly spa and sauna session. Alternatively, you could massage your body with a concoction of olive oil, lavender oil and baby oil. Use circular motions and apply pressure to specific points of stress like the arch of waist, ankles, shoulders, back of the neck etc. Step into a tub of lukewarm water mixed with lemon juice and rose water and lie there for about 20 minutes.
The final step is the daily detox. Yoga is the keyword here. To work on your body, mind and soul collectively, practice the art of Yoga. Each yogic asana has three defining facets: the posture (physical dimension), the sight (mental dimension) and breath (soulful dimension). Each yogic pose, thus, helps you concentrate, calm down and purify your internal self. Poses like Surya Namaskar, Pranayama and Trikonasana can be practised to achieve perfect skin.
We are all conscious of our morality and inevitable aging of skin. Premature aging, however, is a major deterrent of a happy life. Therefore, you need to pay ample attention to your skin, make the detox diet a part of your life and slowly work your way towards healthy, glowing skin.
