What’s at stake when you neglect your extra pound!

With the rise fast food consumption and a largely sluggish lifestyle, internet, magazines, newspapers have all gone blah-blah over the multiple benefits a well-balanced diet and regular exercise may bestow upon the human body. And that minority who are really annoyed with their weight always ends up looking for fancy diets or much worse,” Seven ways to lose your fat in seven days” columns. Such people have to realize that it takes a great lot of pain and hard work to shed that extra pound. Instead of searching for miraculous ways to reduce fat, one must first try to understand the health implications of being obese. Here is a list of five main health issues related to obesity.

  1.  1.     Varicose veins.

Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen veins, frequently linked to faulty valves in the vein. People with lumpy varicose veins on their legs may experience cramping pain and heavy limbs. Treatment becomes mandatory only when complications such as ulcers develop. Otherwise, this can be effectively treated by making simple lifestyle changes.

  1. 2.      Atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis is a disease in which a plaque builds up inside the arteries and blocks the blood flow to heart and other parts of the body. It can lead to heart attack, stroke or even death. Here also, lifestyle changes are prescribed by most medical professionals.

   3.     Deep vein thrombosis.

It is caused mainly by a blood clot in a deep vein of the leg. It also offers the sufferer with swelling, pain and tenderness in the legs. Inactivity is the main cause of DVT. Blood has the tendency to accumulate in the limbs and pelvic area of an inactive body. This raises the risks of clots forming.

   4.     Dementia.

Dementia, as a result of obesity mainly concerns the middle aged-group. Researchers give various theories on the connection between the two, yet some ambiguity remains. Here also, lifestyle choices, if opted with care, helps a great deal.

    4.    Menstrual problems.

There is a higher probability of irregular periods in obese women and resulting pregnancy abnormalities and even infertility. This can upset the stable hormone level in the body and enhances the chances of appearance of increased male characteristics in women such as hoarse voice, moustache etc. The main problem with the hormonal level fluctuations is that once an endocrinologist begins the medication, it cannot be stopped even after the hormone level stabilizes. It is in every way better to exercise everyday than to gulp down ugly pills every night.

The list doesn’t stop here-high cholesterol, heart burn, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, fungal skin infections, poor healing of wounds and infections-are all diseases/conditions which obesity can endow you with. Follow simple rules-good diet and regular exercise. Stay simple. Stay healthy.
