Now that is A LOT!!

The website Foodiebay.com was officially founded in July 2008 by Deepinder Goyal, a post-graduate from IIT Delhi. What started off as a small exercise to help his colleagues negotiate huge stacks of menu cards with ease, well, turned out much more than simply that! With the help of Pankaj Chaddah and Gunjan Patidar(now Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer respectively), his juniors from college, he built the database. Info Edge (india) Ltd. being their main investor, the online restaurant guide gradually expanded. Foodiebay was renamed Zomato.com in November 2010. The brand name was changed due to a possible venture outside of food and also to avoid a possible conflict with eBay as the earlier brandname Foodiebay had ‘ebay’ in it.

Websites like burrp.com and timescity.com mainly give out the address and contact numbers of restaurants but zomato.com gives much more..! Zomato’s restaurant guide allows users to search for information related to restaurants, patisseries, bars, pubs and clubs. The information consists of the name of the establishment, contact number, address, menu, photos, location on map (by using Google Maps ) , reviews and any event occurring at the establishment. Zomato uses signs to indicate whether an establishment provides home delivery and dine-in services, and also whether non-vegetarian food and alcohol are served. The registered users can post reviews and rate the establishments on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. As an additional perk, Zomato provides information related to operation timings, cuisines served , the approximate cost of a meal for two, whether credit cards are accepted or not, presence or absence of air-conditioning, Wifi internet, a smoking area, live performances and outdoor seating. Phew!

No wonder, zomato.com has made life easier! At least for foodies like me, it definitely has..!! Now, finding new restaurants is a piece of cake and going for Food Walks- well never been better.
