Being your own boss, ideating, creating and nurturing that idea that you’ve always had and making it a successful business while remaining true to your ideals is what you would have dreamed of, if you ever thought of having a start up of your own. Innovation is not new to us Indians, we see it in every aspect of our day to day lives. But when it comes to startups, very few (in terms of the number of people who could) take the leap of faith required to commit to a startup. This may be due to a number of reasons like lack of guidance, lack of awareness of the viability or not being sure of the reception by the target audience. However if you dared to dream, then there’s a wonderful platform called “Startup Weekend” that takes place throughout the world that helps you overcome the initial challenges and helps you find out what it takes to become a successful startup.
Startup Weekend has been taking place in Hyderabad since 2012, and this time the latest iteration is a part of the Global Startup Battle. (where Startup Weekends in over 200 cities are held simultaneously) Startup Weekend is where Anything is Possible. In over 54 hours, and a gathering of about 100 people, anyone is welcome to pitch an idea, the best of which are voted upon. With hackers, business and creative people in the mix, 10-15 teams are formed, and these teams work on the ideas. The journey starts on Friday and continues till Sunday. The efforts of the best teams are rewarded with either cash or in-kind support from companies.
The Startup Weekend’s motto is: Build Community. Start Companies. No Talk. All Action! Amidst such an exciting atmosphere over 15000 entrepreneurs have been inspired to start around 500 startups!
This time the Global Startup Weekend, held over two weekends, aims to foster a stronger relationship among the global community of startups. In the week leading to the battle, Startup Weekend events are conducted and the winners from each go on to participate in a global competition via video. Teams then form a video pitch and enter into the Circle battles they qualify for. The top 15 teams in each Circle are determined by the Global votes and finally, a panel of judges decides which team is the overall winner. Over 130 cities participated in Global Startup Battle last year, and it is expected to be much bigger this time around!
In India, over 15 Startup Weekend events have been conducted in Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. A few of the startups that have come out of these include Social shout, Perfect My English, ASAPapp.in, LEBTOP and StoryXpress. So what are you waiting for? The Startup Weekend Battle is here in Hyderabad, sign up and start up!
Block your dates from Friday, Nov 22nd (17:00) to Sunday, Nov 24th (20:00 ) for the event at Progress Software, Hyderabad.
